Welcome

Artist's Statement

I have been perfecting my clay-throwing and decorating techniques for over 40 years, both as a high school art teacher and an exhibiting artist. In my studio in St. Joseph, MN, I work with three different clay bodies--porcelain, raku, and stoneware.

My style reflects the use of additions such as metal or gold leaf inlays, sterling silver handles, or carved designs. I have always felt a strong influence of the Art Deco and Art Nouveau periods in art history.

I begin with a simple form thrown in one of the three clay bodies and embellish the surface with a variety of techniques to enhance that form.

I feel that the resulting pieces are unique in that they cover a wide range of style and purpose, from sculptural raku to delicate porcelain vessels to stoneware caricatures.

The process of creating these forms is evolutionary, not revolutionary. I enjoy the experimentation in the process, and I hope to give my customers the same enjoyment in their pieces as I get in their creation.
